A Teacher

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who made you learn the alphabets.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who made your learn to count.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who made you recognise the sounds.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who made you speak in public.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who made your mistakes a lesson.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who gave you opportunities when no one else believed in you, not even you.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who showed confidence in you when no one else could, not even you.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who didn’t judge you for the marks you scored, but for the efforts you had put in.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who could never become your class teacher, but was always by your side.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who smiled and winked at you for the jokes which were cracked within the classroom.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who celebrated your birthday, as if it was her own sons’ or daughters’.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who planned trips to the places you parents won’t take you to.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who grew old with you, yet kept her energy that of a child.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
whom you still go and meet at school or college, because you know she will always be there!

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
whom you found in your friends and sometimes enemies.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who shared her personal stories so that you could aspire, learn and laugh with her.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
who taught you beyond the textbooks.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher
whose lectures and deadlines you miss, because no one is as considerate now as she was.

Fold your hands and thank the teacher,
but also go hold and hug her, because even though we might forget her, she never forgets any of her students!

Happy Teacher’s Day to every teacher who became one in the process!
